5 Reasons I am Creating a Solo Travel & Life Blog

Hello Queens & Kings!

Thank you for joining me on my journey around the world and my journey of self-awareness. So who am I? Well my  name is Kia Amelia and I am an eclectic African American woman who is also a pre-med student, grad student, music lover, yogi, freelance photographer, entrepreneur, business owner, seeker of knowledge, self-published author…to name a few. I’d say I love to be a part of different areas of life that will bring out my full potential. I started this blog because I absolutely love traveling and I want to share my solo trips with you! Apart from that I want to create a community of ethnic women solo travelers who are confident with their selves in every aspect of their lives. We will begin by back tracking on some of my past solo trips. I will be adding in a few posts on life’s lessons and then I will be keeping you up to date on my current solo journeys. Since this is my first post, I want to give you 5 reasons why I am creating a solo travel and life blog.

  1. I enjoy writing.

I have kept a diary since 2001. It all began with a prize I won in 6th grade: it was a Scooby-Doo diary. During my childhood and throughout high school I was an introvert. It was not until college that I began to come out of my shell. With this new diary I was able to express myself in ways that I could not do verbally. I also enjoy writing poetry and short stories. My most recent literary work is an e-book titled “Why Not You?: An Empowerment Guide”. Writing allows me to reflect internally on a consistent basis. I am able to track my progress and growth and at the beginning of each year I read a few entries from the year that is passing in order to reflect on what I have learned about life and myself. I would definitely recommend keeping a diary or journal!

  1. I have something to share.

I have been a very private person the majority of my life. We all have something to give to others and learn from others. Sharing a part of my journey with you helps me grow and I always enjoy seeking opportunities to grow. I also seek to provide you with some of the things I have learned during my journey, especially during my travels.

  1. I love traveling, especially on solo trips.

Ever since my trip to Germany in 2014, I have had the travel bug. You can learn so much about yourself from traveling, especially on solo trips. I feel like I am more of myself when I travel. Now I consider myself to be an ambivert and so when I travel I see more of my extrovert side. I feel like I always come back a more experienced open-minded individual. The world is such a beautiful place and I aim to travel to every possible place in my lifetime.

  1. I want to encourage ethnic women to be confident in themselves and traveling solo.

There is a stigma that it is unsafe for women to travel alone. Before I decided to travel solo, I kept reading articles on women traveling alone. The articles I read included women who took solo trips abroad. I have yet to take a solo trip abroad but it is one of my goals. I have a few friends who enjoy traveling but they have very busy lifestyles which is understandable but I like to travel often so it created a dilemma for me. I would plan trips for a group of my friends to go on and it would end up not working out. I often felt frustrated because I was anxious to travel but it wouldn’t work out with people’s schedules or they weren’t as enthusiastic about it as I was. I began to create an attitude of “I want to go so I am going to go.” This allowed me to go on more trips than I could have imagined. I figured I would go by myself or not at all. Traveling solo as an ethnic woman is possible with planning, research and confidence. Throughout my posts you will gain the tools to be able to travel confidently as an ethnic woman.

  1. I have learned a great deal about life and myself on solo journeys and I want to share it with you.

Every trip I go on comes with enlightenment. I am able to get to know myself on a deeper level every time I travel. I always find myself saying to myself on my trips that they make me so pensive and because I am always in deep thought on my trips, I feel challenged to grow. Due to the challenges I have reflected on while traveling solo, I have made big life-changing decisions that have helped me grow even more. Solo trips make me more confident in who I am and what I am capable of. In addition, it has helped me learn how to navigate and be aware in unfamiliar environments.

What I hope to gain from this blog:

-I want to create a community of ethnic women solo travelers.

-I hope to connect with other solo travel bloggers, readers and individuals.

-I want to learn more about myself and grow.

-I want to be an example for beautiful powerful women.

Thank you for being part of my journey. I would love to hear from you! Let’s talk. You can comment below, send me an email or we can connect on my Instagram profile, @kayiadore.
